Saturday, May 19 – ***Kick off event***
We are kicking off the 2018 ride with a celebration of the ‘Garden of Honor’ at Tri-County Health Care, Wadena MN! This garden at the hospital honors local organ, eye, and tissue donor. Everyone is welcome to a light supper provided by the hospital at 6 p.m. Wear blue and green in honor of donors and donor families.
We will stage at the Wadena County Fairgrounds, located on the north side of Hwy 10 on the west end of Wadena. Address is 400 Ash Avenue. There is plenty of parking and graze available north of the horse barn. There are no stalls, so portable pens are necessary. Water is available at the wash racks north of the horse barn. Some electrical hookups are available.
Sunday, May 20 – Wadena to Eagle Bend (22 miles)
The morning will start off with a 7:30 a.m. church service. We will depart Wadena at 8:00 a.m. We follow Hwy 71 south to Eagle Bend. Horses that will be ridden will be loaded up and hauled 2 miles on Hwy 10 east and Hwy 71 to Midwest Truck Repair, 1501 S Hwy 71, on the south end of town. Spare horses can either be left at the Wadena fairgrounds and picked up later or loaded and hauled to the Todd County Fairgrounds in Long Prairie. Riders coming in that morning can leave horses loaded and follow us or drive to Midwest Truck Repair. Fairgrounds in Long Prairie are located in the northeast corner of town – from Hwy 71, take 2nd avenue (first street south of the bridge) ½ mile east to 9th street. Our famous T4T volunteers, Sally & Jake Jacobson, will be serving us a meal this night.
Monday, May 21 – Eagle Bend to Long Prairie (20 miles)
Depart at 7:30 a.m. We will haul horses from Long Prairie back to Eagle Bend, then ride along Hwy 71 south to fairgrounds in Long Prairie. Remaining horses will stay at Todd County Fairgrounds. There are approximately 35 stalls available in an open sided barn, but limited graze. Bathrooms available. Some hookups are available as well. Directions to Fairgrounds are: From Hwy 71, take 2nd avenue (first street south of the bridge) ½ mile left (east) to 9th street.
Tuesday, May 22 – Long Prairie to Sauk Centre (21 miles)
8:00 a.m. start. Continue down Hwy 71 to Sauk Centre. We will haul saddled horses to the to the frontage road near the NAPA store at the south end of Long Prairie. We will then unload and ride to the Jaycees baseball field at the north end of Sauk Centre (junction of 4th St North). Riders will be picked up and hauled to the Stearns County Fairgrounds located in the southeast part of town (take Hwy 71 to the frontage road on the north side of the Interstate, then left (east) ½ mile to the fairgrounds. Address is 1105 Ash St, Sauk Centre. Horses and horse trailers are to be staged at the east side of the outdoor area. Stalls are available, but must be cleaned prior to us leaving. Wheelbarrows are on site to use.
Wednesday, May 23 – Sauk Centre to Belgrade (22 miles)
Depart at 7:30 a.m. Route is Hwy 71 south to Belgrade. We will trailer saddled horses over the interstate and approx 1/2 mile south to a gravel area on the east side of Hwy 71 to be safe. There is room to stage and unload at that location. Extra horses to be left at the Sauk Centre Fairgrounds. Riders will be picked up at the “Bottoms Up” bar at the south end of Belgrade and hauled back to Sauk Centre.
Thursday, May 24 – Sauk Centre to Sauk Centre (20 miles)
Depart at 7:30 a.m. This route has changed from the original plan due to road construction on Hwy 71 north of Willmar. Route is 1 mile east on 12th street (County Road 186), then 3 miles east on McCormick Road (gravel), 1 mile north and east on County Road 185 (paved), 2 miles east on 421st street (follow curves on gravel road), 3 miles north on County Road 170 (360th Ave- first mile paved, last 2 miles gravel), to Todd County Line (Hwy 28), then return to Sauk Centre on the same route.
After the ride, we will load all the horses and drive to Bird Island via Hwy 71 to Belgrade, east on Hwy 55 to Paynesville, and south on Hwy 4 to Hector, then west on Hwy 212 to Bird island, then south on main to the fairgrounds (Note: Hwy 4 at Lake Henry is closed due to construction, as is Hwy 71 between Belgrade and Willmar). We will stage at the Renville County Fairgrounds located on the southeast side of town. Water, graze, bathrooms and showers are available.
Friday, May 25 – Willmar to Bird Island (29 miles)
Depart Willmar at 7:30 a.m. Saddled horses are to be hauled to the Ford dealership at the south end of Willmar. Spare horses will left in Bird Island where we will stay the night. Riders that would like to ride a shorter distance this day can be dropped off 5 or 6 miles south of Willmar. Route is Highway 71 south to Hwy 212, then left (east) to Bird Island. Take Main Street south to 6th Avenue, then left (east) one block to the fairgrounds. We will stage at the Renville County Fairgrounds located on the southeast side of town. Water, graze, bathrooms and showers are available.
Saturday, May 26 – Bird Island to Fairfax (26 miles)
Leave Bird Island at 7:30 a.m. Route is south on County Road 5 to County Road 19 at Franklin, then east on County Road 19 to Fairfax. Horses and riders will be picked up at the Shell station located at the junction of Hwy 19 and hauled back to Bird Island for the night.
Sunday, May 27 – Fairfax to Sleepy Eye (24 miles)
We will start our morning with a 7:30 a.m. prayer service and be on the road by 8:00 a.m. Riders will be dropped off at Fairfax and remaining horses will be trailered to the Eagle’s Nest Campground located 5 miles east and 1 mile north of St James. Route is south on Hwy 4, through Sleepy Eye, to junction County Road 10 & 22 (approximately 6 miles south of Sleepy Eye). We will need to group up and have traffic control 9 miles into the ride for crossing the Minnesota River. Riders will be picked up 6 miles south of Sleepy Eye and trailered to the Eagle’s Nest Campground. The South Fork golf club will be providing supper for us this night. Sleepy Eye has a laundromat at 211 Main St W.
Monday, May 28 – Sleepy Eye to St. James (26 miles)
Memorial Day….remembering all who served others. We will head out at 7:30 a.m. Saddled horses and riders will be trailered to area 6 miles south of Sleepy Eye. Remaining horses will be left at Eagle’s Nest Campground. Route is 6 miles south on County Road 4, 4 miles east on County Road 4, 4 miles south on County Road 4, 2.5 miles east on County Road 3, 2.5 miles south on County Road 116 & 27, 2.5 miles east on County Road 16 (Hammond highway), 1.5 miles south on County Road 16, 1 miles east on County Road 16, ½ mile south on County Road 16, 1 mile east on County Road 16, 1 mile south on County Road 118. Directional flagging will be in place. Laundromat: E Z Wash Laundromat at 71469 360th Street, St James, MN.
Tuesday, May 29 – St. James to Garden City (27 miles)
Depart at 7:30 a.m. Route is 1 mile north on County Road 118, ½ mile east on County Road 16, ½ mile north on 790th Ave (T-61), 1 mile east on County Road 109 (t-58), 1.5 miles north on County Road 109 (800th Ave), 3 miles east on County Road 13 (Hammond highway), 3 miles east and south on County Road 9, 3.5 miles east and south on County Road 30, 8.5 miles east on County Road 13 (including the 0.25 mile jog south on 20 to Jct Hwy 169), then straight ahead to Garden City, then 1 mile east on Washington Ave which will become Fairgrounds Road. The Fairgrounds are located at the east end of Washington Street. Directional flagging will be available.
Parking and hookups are available. Corrals can be set up in the north end by the old racetrack. We have reserved 6 hookups at $20 each and will stage the remainder of the crew at the north end of the campground down by the old horse arena. Note: there are no services in this rural campground (No gas, groceries, etc. ). John Krantz will prepare a meal for us at the campground.
Wednesday, May 30 – Garden City to Pemberton (24 miles)
Depart at 7:30 a.m. Route is: West ¾ miles on county road 38 (Washington St.), left (south) 1/4 miles on county road 169, left (east) 1 mile on County Road 34 (171thst), right (north) 1 mile on 527th Ave (turn left at cemetery), then left (east) 4 miles on County Road 13 (164th St), left (north and east on County Road 10), 3/4 mile on County Road 10 (550th Ave), left (north and east through Good Thunder) 15 miles on County Road 10 , right (south) 1.5 miles on Hwy 83.
We will stage on 216 Main Street in Pemberton. Spare horses will hauled to the Waseca County Fairgrounds. Waseca fairgrounds are located in the northwest corner of Waseca.
Supper for riders at 6pm at Fairgrounds by Jan Manly and friends.
Thursday, May 31 – Pemberton to Waseca (20 miles)
Depart at 7:30 a.m. We will leave spare horses at Waseca and haul saddled horses back to Pemberton. We will ride to Waseca with the directions above, except we will load horses at the Junction of Old Hwy 14 (Elm Ave) and Experiment station road, which is 1 mile north of 350th Ave. Horses will then be hauled to the Waseca Fairgrounds.
Friday, June 1 – Waseca to Pine Island Arena (15 miles)
8:00 AM start. We will load all horses and trailer to the Island Riders horse arena located near Pine Island. The arena parking area is large enough for all rigs and some graze is available. There are no water or hookups available, but portable outhouses are available for our use.
The Island Riders Horse Club will lead us on trails for a 10 – 15 mile ride. Pine Island has their town festival called Cheese Fest which will have food vendors from 4:30pm – 11pm for anyone interested!
Saturday, June 2 – Final destination…….ROCHESTER, MN (13 miles)
