Saturday, May 20 – ***Donate Life Horse Show at Triple R Coteau Arena, Edgeley, ND***
We are kicking off the 2017 ride with some competition! Everyone is welcome to participate in the show, whether you are sittin’ in the saddle or sittin’ in a lawn chair. Wear blue and green to show support for recipients and honor donors and donor families. Also taking place during the show will be a silent auction, free-will offering meal, calcutta rescue race and scoop shovel race, and 50/50 raffle. Festivities will start at 10 a.m. Registration is 8-9:30 a.m. Click here for event poster & show bill. Following the show, we will hear LIVE music from western country artist, Greg Hager! Water and some graze is available for horses at the arena. We can use the pens north of the arena, but some will need to set up portable pens. Some electrical hookups available. Flush toilets also available. Prairie Rose Inn is local hotel nearby (701-493-2075).
Sunday, May 21 – Edgeley, ND to LaMoure, ND – 21 miles
Depart at 7:30 a.m. We will have cowboy church service at 7 a.m. at the Edgeley arena before hitting the trail. We will travel east along Hwy 13 to LaMoure. Staging will be at the James River Riders Arena located on the northeast end of town. There is plenty of graze. Portable pens will need to be set up. We will be escorted through town by the local fire department, ambulance, and city police. The LaMoure Lions Club will be hosting a free-will offering meal and T4T volunteers will share their personal stories about donation at 4:00pm at the LaMoure Civic Center. Click here for flyer. Monday, May 22 – LaMoure, ND to Oakes, ND – 26 miles
Depart at 7:00 a.m. We will travel the back roads to Oakes. We will head south on Co Rd 60, then east on 78th St, south on 108 Ave, then east on 81st St, and south on Hwy 1. Staging will be at the Bear Creek Arena, located southwest of town right south of the ball field and the Historical Society. There will be adequate graze for horses. During the evening, we will take part in the unveiling of CHI-Oakes Hospital’s new donor tribute wall. A dedication ceremony will take place at the hospital from 5-7 pm. Donor families, CHI Oakes leadership and staff, T4T riders and leaders, LifeSource organ, eye and tissue donation, Dakota Lions Sight & Health, Minnesota Lions Eye Bank, and the public are all invited to attend. Tuesday, May 23 – Oakes, ND to Forman, ND –25 miles
Depart at 9 a.m. We will travel south on Hwy 1, then east on Hwy 11 to Forman. Staging area will be at the Sargent County Fair Grounds located north on 1st street. Adequate graze is for horses available at fairgrounds. We are allowed to use horse barns. Electrical hook-ups are available on fairgrounds for us to use as well as bathrooms. T4T volunteers and LifeSource will be speaking to high school students at Sargent Central High School in Forman during our morning ride. Tia Bopp & family will provide a meal for the crew at 5 p.m. in the exhibit building on the fairgrounds.
Wednesday, May 24 – Forman, ND to Lidgerwood, ND – 25 miles
Depart at 9 a.m. We will head east on Hwy 11 to Lidgerwood. The ride will pass through town and we will stage at Frolek Custom Cars. There will be a fenced in field west of the shop/house that we will stay in for the night. The community of Lidgerwood will be hosting its own burger fundraiser from 5-8 at the city park. There will be a DJ as well at the community event. There is a campground near the golf course that has water and electrical hookups (701-640-6818) at $15/night and $5 for sewer. Rooms can be rented at Storbakken Lodging (701-538-7373).
Thursday, May 25 – Lidgerwood, ND to Fairmount, ND – 22 miles
Take off at 9 a.m. We will travel east on Hwy 11 to Fairmount. Staging area will be at ‘The Truck Shop’ on the west side of town along Hwy 11. Camp can be set up on the southwest side of the building. There is minimal graze in this area and we will need to set up portable pens for horses. There is a Cenex station, Doug’s Bar, and American Legion in town.
Friday, May 26 – Fairmount, ND to Wheaton, MN – 23 miles
Minnesota bound! Depart at 9 a.m. We will head east on ND Hwy 11 to MN 55, then south on Hwy 75 into Wheaton. We will be camping at the Traverse County Fairgrounds on the southeast side of town. There is a horse barn and some graze for horses. Some electrical hookups are available and free to use. Our T4T volunteers and LifeSource will speak at the Wheaton High School at 2 p.m. to grades 6-12. The American Legion and the Anchor Bar will be our meeting places for the evening.
Saturday, May 27 – Wheaton, MN to Graceville, MN – 17 miles
Short day! Depart at 9 a.m. Continue south on Hwy 75 into Graceville. The Cenex parking lot on the north end of town will be our staging area for the night. There is a laundromat in town and campground (Toqua Park 320-305-3920) has electrical hookups and showers. The Headquarters will be our evening meeting place. They serve some of the best pizza in the area according to the locals.
Sunday, May 28 – Graceville, MN to Morris, MN – 26 miles
Depart at 8 a.m. We will have cowboy church service before we head down the trail that morning. We will travel east on Hwy 28 to Morris, then south on Hwy 9, then on Co Rd 22 to Stevens County Fairgrounds. We will camp in the pit. Portable pens will need to be set up and there should be plenty of graze for horses. Bathrooms and camping hookups available at fairgrounds. The Stampede 4-H club will have a free will offering meal at 4:30 p.m. and T4T volunteers will speak to the 4-H club, their families, and community members. Looking for a place to stay? Monday, May 29 – Morris, MN to Benson, MN – 23 miles
Memorial Day….remembering all who served others. Depart at 9 a.m. for Benson. We will head southeast on Hwy 9. Our staging area will be at Web Livestock Auction. There is plenty of graze or we can use livestock pens. The Vadnais family of Benson will serve our crew supper at 5 p.m.!
Tuesday, May 30 – Benson, MN to Appleton, MN – 25 miles
Leave Benson at 8 a.m. We will travel south on Hwy 3, then west on Hwy 12, and south on Hwy 59. From Hwy 59 go right on West Theilke, left on North Paul Street to fairgrounds. We will camp at the Swift County Fairgrounds on the southwest side of town. There are bathroom/showers and electrical hook-ups available.
Wednesday, May 31 – Appleton, MN to Dawson, MN – 21 miles (**** UPDATED 5/30/17)
Depart at 8 a.m. Leaving the Swift County Fairgrounds heading to Dawson, MN.
We will return to the Appleton Fairgrounds for the evening.
Thursday, June 1 – Montevideo, MN to Granite Falls, MN – (**** UPDATED 5/31/17)
Early morning start at 7 a.m at Appleton Fairgrounds, trailer the horses to to the Farmers Elevator in Montevideo, MN. At the elevator we will saddle up horses and have breakfast at 7:30 AM provided by the elevator crew. Here is the directions to the elevator:
1. Highway 59/7 south to Montevideo.
2. At the stop sign, make a right.
3. Go thru the traffic light and you’ll be on 212 east towards Granite Falls.
4. Right after passing 72nd Street SW on your left, make a left into the elevator property. It’s not well marked but there’s a small sign for FCE as well as a small sign for Wehrspann Kennel.
5. Go straight back and veer off to the left at the curve of the road. Look for the black Hummer!
We will be camping at the Upper Sioux Agency Horse Camp. Picket lines and water available. We will spend the afternoon touring Fagen Fighter WWII Airplane Museum.
Friday, June 2 – Bird Island, MN – 22 miles (****UPDATED 6-1-17)
Load up and depart at 7:30 am from Bird Island. Sally and Jake will have breakfast teats available at 7 am. We are heading to a county park called Beaver Falls. We will spend the day hitting the trails throughout the area-should be about 20 miles worth of trails. Trails are wooded and there is a river that flows through the park. We will also head up to the Birch Coulee Battlefield as well. Sally will have food packed for us in Jim & Shirley’s trailers. This will be a nice day to relax and have some beverages along the trail. Riders will trailer their own horses back to Bird Island. Friday evening we will have a potluck supper at 6. Bring all your food you didn’t use along the trail!

Saturday, June 3 – Final destination…….Renville to Bird Island – 17 miles
Our final day! We will load up horses at 7:30 a.m. and trailer to Cenex station in Renville. Depart from Renville at 8:30 a.m. We will travel east along US 212, then south on Hwy 5 to the Renville County Fairgrounds. Plenty of graze for horses available. We will celebrate our victory by hosting an open community event and dancing the night away to the band Eclipse! Horse rides, bouncy houses for kids, food vendors, helicopter tours and beer gardens will also be open that night to Bird Island & surrounding communities. Click here for event poster!
Sunday, June 4 – The Renville County Fair Board is proud to host a “Happy Trails” belgian waffle feed for riders, volunteers, and the community. The feed will take place at the fairgrounds from 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
