Saturday, May 19 – ***Kick off event***
We are kicking off the 2018 ride with the unveiling and dedication of the ‘Garden of Honor’ at Tri-County Health Care, Wadena MN! Everyone is welcome to participate in this event. Wear blue and green in honor of donors and donor families. More details regarding this event to be released at a later date.
We will stage at the Wadena County Fairgrounds, located on the north side of Hwy 10 on the west end of Wadena. Address is 400 Ash Avenue. There is plenty of parking and graze available north of the horse barn. There are no stalls, so portable pens are necessary. Water is available at the wash racks north of the horse barn. Some electrical hookups are available.
Sunday, May 20 – Wadena to Eagle Bend (22 miles)
The morning will start off with a 7:30 a.m. church service. We will depart Wadena at 8:00 a.m. We follow Hwy 71 south to Eagle Bend. Horses that will be ridden will be loaded up and hauled 1.5 miles on Hwy 10 east and Hwy 71 south to the junction of Lincoln Ave. near the south end of town. Spare horses can either be left at the Wadena fairgrounds and picked up later or loaded and hauled to the Todd County Fairgrounds in Long Prairie. Riders coming in that morning can leave horses loaded and follow us or drive and park on Lincoln Ave. near Hwy 71. Fairgrounds in Long Prairie are located in the northeast corner of town.
Monday, May 21 – Eagle Bend to Long Prairie (20 miles)
Depart at 7:30 a.m. We will haul horses from Long Prairie back to Eagle Bend, then ride along Hwy 71 south to fairgrounds in Long Prairie. Remaining horses will stay at Todd County Fairgrounds. There are approximately 35 stalls available in an open sided barn, but limited graze. Bathrooms available. Some hookups are available as well. Directions to Fairgrounds are: From Hwy 71, take 2nd avenue (first street south of the bridge) ½ mile left (east) to 9th street.
Tuesday, May 22 – Long Prairie to Sauk Centre (21 miles)
8:00 a.m. start. Continue down Hwy 71 to Sauk Centre. We will haul saddled horses to the rest area at the south end of Long Prarie, then unload and ride to the baseball field at the north end of Sauk Centre (junction of 4th St. north). Riders will be picked up and hauled to the Stearns County Fairgrounds located in the southeast part of town–take Hwy 71 to the frontage road on the north side of the interstate, then left (east) ½ mile to the fairgrounds. Address is 1105 Ash St.
Wednesday, May 23 – Sauk Centre to Belgrade (22 miles)
Depart at 7:30 a.m. Route is Hwy 71 south to Belgrade. Extra horses will be loaded up and hauled to the Kandiyohi County Fairgrounds in Willmar. The group will need to stay together for the first two miles. We will ride the frontage road to Hwy 71, cross over the interstate, then stay together for the first mile due to wet ditches. At the end of the day, riders will be picked up at the ‘Bottoms Up’ bar at the south end of Belgrade and hauled to Kandiyohi County Fairgrounds in Willmar. Stalls and water available. Hookups are available at $20.00 per night, but there is no sewer dump. Bathrooms and showers are available to us as well.
Thursday, May 24 – Belgrade to Willmar (25 miles)
Leave Willmar and haul saddled horses to Belgrade at 7:30 a.m. Route from Belgrade is south 21.5 miles on Hwy 71, west (right) 1.5 miles on county road 24, (junction of county road 24 is just past the start of the 4 lane section of Hwy 71), then left (south) 2 miles on county road 41 to the fairgrounds.
Friday, May 25 – Willmar to Bird Island (29 miles)
Depart Willmar at 7:30 a.m. Riders and saddled horses will be hauled from the fairgrounds in Willmar to the Mills Ford dealership south of highway 12 where we will unload and start the ride. Continue to follow Hwy 71 south, then west on Hwy 212 to Bird Island. We will stage at the Renville County Fairgrounds located on the southeast side of town. Water, graze, bathrooms and showers are available.
Saturday, May 26 – Bird Island to Fairfax (26 miles)
Leave Bird Island at 7:30 a.m. We will take Hwy 212 to Hector then head south on Hwy 4 to Fairfax. Horses and riders will be picked up at the Shell station located at the junction of Hwy 19 and hauled back to Bird Island for the night. Alternate route is being investigated. Watch for future updates.
Sunday, May 27 – Fairfax to Sleepy Eye (22 miles)
We will start our morning with a 7:30 a.m. prayer service and be on the road by 8:00 a.m. Route is south on Hwy 4 through Sleepy Eye to the junction of county road 24. We will plan to drop riders and saddled horses off at Fairfax, then trailer remaining horses to Eagle’s Nest park east of St. James. The Fairgrounds is located in the southeast corner of town. Riders will be picked up 4 miles south of Sleepy Eye and trailered into St James.
Monday, May 28 – Sleepy Eye to St. James
Memorial Day….remembering all who served others. We will head out at 7:30 a.m. Saddled horses and riders will be trailered to the area south of Sleepy Eye. Staging area and route to be determined.
Tuesday, May 29 – St. James to Garden City (27 miles)
Depart St. James at 7:30 a.m. We will ride 1.5 miles east on county road 12 (7th Ave), 13.5 miles east and north on Hwy 60/30, 8.5 miles left (east) on county road 3 (which will become county road 13), right (south) ¼ mile on 510th Ave, and left (east) 4 miles into Garden City. The fairgrounds are located at the east end of Washington Street. Parking and hookups are available. Corrals can be set up in the north end by the old racetrack.
Wednesday, May 30 – Garden City to Pemberton (24 miles)
Depart Garden City at 7:30 a.m. Route is: West ¾ miles on county road 38 (Washington St.), left (south) 1.5 miles on county road 169, left (east) 5 miles on county road 13 (164th St.), left (north and east) 3/4 mile on county road 10 (550th Ave.), left (north) one block on Halliday St., right (east) 15 miles on county road 10( Main St.), right (south) 1.5 miles on Hwy 83. We will stage on Main Street in Pemberton. Spare horses will hauled to the Waseca County Fairgrounds. Waseca fairgrounds are located in the northwest corner of Waseca.
Thursday, May 31 – Pemberton to Waseca (20 miles)
Depart at 7:30 a.m. We will haul saddled horses back to Pemberton and ride to Waseca with the following directions: North 1 mile on county road 53, right (east) 12 miles on county road 10 (which will become county road 9), left (north) 3 miles on county road 27, right (east) 1 mile on county road 40 (350th Ave.), left (north) 1.5 miles on county road 41, left (east) 2 miles on county road 13 (362nd Ave. which becomes 7th Ave.), left (north) one block on 4th street to fairgrounds. Once we arrive back in Waseca, we will then load all horses and trailer to the Island Riders horse arena located near Pine Island.
Friday, June 1 – Waseca to Pine Island Arena (20 miles)
8:00 AM start. Island Riders saddle club will lead us on the trails! We will spend the night at the Island Riders arena and prepare for our final day!
Saturday, June 2 – Final destination…….ROCHESTER, MN (13 miles)
