2025 Ride

2025 Trails4Transplants Recap

The 13th Annual Trails4Transplants trail ride commenced on May 29th, with a traditional visit to two elder care homes (Peaceful Pines Senior Living at Fort Pierre and Avantara Pierre). Residents lined up outside at each facility and joined the horses and riders, as they sang traditional cowboy songs along with harmonica music! It has been a tradition to make time at each annual ride to brighten the lives of the elder community and this year was another success! A kickoff event with silent auction and live music by the Dirty Boot Band, was held on Friday night at the Grey Goose Store & Social Club, with all enjoying the evening!

On May 30th we began three days of riding through the historic Korkow Anchor K Ranch, with Jim Korkow guiding the group through scenic trails along the Medicine Creek. On a number of occasions herds of the Korkow Rodeo Bucking stock were encountered, some with young colts at their side! Hills were steep, causing some of the riders to lead their horses down the trail. A staging area was established each day around noon for riders and horses to take a rest, get fed, and hydrated.

One of the staging areas was at the Ken Korkow’s Ministries Ranch, where the group of riders were treated to a great meal of pulled pheasant and beans, and had the pleasure of listening to the history of the Korkow ranch and Ministries. Ken and Jim Korkow both provided experiences for thought and reflection on one’s life and ambitions. Visiting and comradery was ever present on the ride, with experienced riders opening and closing gates and helping the more inexperienced.

Up to forty-seven riders enjoyed the ride each day, with 40 miles being covered over the three days, and over $21,000.00 raised to help those dealing with organ, eye, or tissue transplants. A great experience for young and old. A huge thanks to Beth and Pul Remund for their planning and execution efforts, and to the Korkow organization for being great hosts. Plans are being set for the 14th annual ride, currently scheduled for the end of May in 2026 near St Anthony, ND.

Now it’s time for a special shout out and a huge thank you to all that opened up their land for everyone to camp and ride on. Additionally, to those who organized, provided meals, transportation, sponsored and/or helped out in any way. This event wouldn’t have been possible without the generosity, time and talent of so many!
